The international media frequently criticize Israel for its strong reaction to security and terror threats, often casting Israel’s responses as an overreaction or provocative. Media portrayals of Israel tend to depict the Jewish state as militarily strong, with the Palestinians as weak and suffering from oppression.
But the reality is that Israel, and Jerusalem specifically, has been targeted by so many attacks that authorities have no choice but to take security matters extremely seriously. With literally dozens of deadly attacks over the decades, and hundreds more foiled by Israeli forces, the government simply can’t afford to take security threats in Jerusalem lightly.
